Abstract

Large scale inductance units made of unreinforced polyester-bound concrete with an internal helical channel for a conductor. The housing may be assembled from smaller sections or panels, when pref. the mating faces are coated with a polyester or epoxy resin adhesive. Pref. the binder comprises 59% polyester resin/20% solvent/21% non-shrink additive and is cured using 2% catalyst and 0.1% accelerator after being added to premixed (and dried) solids to obtain 9-10Q% binder + 15-16% filler + 35-40% sand +35-40% gravel. The material is esp. to suppress possible short circuits on electric locomotives and offers greater strength than porcelain or epoxy resin for conductor guide walls. It is quicker to mould than metal reinforced concrete castings and also free from internal low dielectric (metal) paths.
