Abstract

The removal of hydrocarbons, particularly heavy fuel oil, from the sea is achieved by means of a large floating horizontal funnel, formed by a partly immersed vertical barrier running from the centre of the ship in a direction inclined to the direction of motion. The barrier is pivoted so that it can be moved up or down a slide and the oil is driven as a thick layer to the apex of the arrangement and is pumped into the ships hold through a trap door in the side of the ship.
