Abstract

The molten polyamide strands are passed through a liquid contg. a copper cpd soluble in the polyamide and an iodine cpd. Pref. materials are cuprous acetate and potassium. iodide or a reaction product of hexa methylene diamine and hydriodic acid. The copper cpd may first be incorporated into the polyamide, which is then passed in molten state into a bath contg. an iodine cpd. The strands may be fibres, threads monofilaments etc. The liquid may be in the form of a paste or suspension. Incorporation of stabilisers avoids shutting-down and cleaning the plant when a change of stabiliser system is required. Gel formation by addition during the formation of the polyamide by condensation reactions is prevented.
