Abstract
Application of a micro-coating onto mechanical agents, esp. crystalline derivs. of alpha-Al2O3, in which the rubbing or friction surface, of high superficial free enthalpy is covered by a coating comprising an absorbed layer of a fluorinated polysiloxane or the corresponding monomer (in which case polymsn. taks place after the coating is in place). The coating is applied by immersing or steeping the surface to be treated in a soln. of the polymer or monomer or exposing it to a vapour of the coating substance. The coatings reduce the friction coefficient of the surfaces and protect them against oxidation, corrosion and the effects of ultra-sonic washing procedures.
