Abstract
The 6-]D(-)-alpha-aminophenylacetamido penicillic acid 3',5'-di-t-butyl-4'-hydroxybenzylester is used to prepare ampicillin by reacting with a weak basic material. Pref. a primary or secondary amine or an alkylithiophenolate is used as the base. Preferably, the reaction is carried out in anhydrous condns. Used as an antibiotic. Advantages are that difficulties connected with the use of 6-aminopenicillin acid as intermediate are avoided and the reaction is economical and clean.
