Abstract

Fragmented materials other than minerals, e.g. stones gravel, metallurgical flux etc. which may be caked with clay, are washed clean in apparatus comprising vibrating perforated troughs. Specif. the troughs are disposed one above the other and inclined at an angle relative one another to contrary senses. Between each pair there is a decanting spout for feeding the material from one through to the next, and a water spray means is disposed above the top trough. The amount of water used is reduced from 0.8-1.5m3/ton of material to 0.4-0.7m3/ton.
