Abstract

Diamino diphenyl methane derivs prodn Title compds of formula (I) (where R1, R2 are H, halogen or 1-3C alkyl radicals) are prepd to give mostly the 4,4'-diamino isomer, less than 5% of the 2,4'-isomer and a minor amount of polyamines, by heating an aniline of formula (II) with formaldehyde (III) at 175-250 degrees C, at autogenous pressure, with molar proportions, of II/III of 2-10, II/acid (HCl, H2SO4) of 0.8-2 and water/II of 2-7. The products are suitable for prodn of polyamides.
