Abstract

3-Oxyacetylindole and its analogues, CNS stimulants. Cpds. of formula (where R, R', R" = H, alkyl or aryl, X = 5-OCH3, 6-OCH3 5-Cl or H), are produced by reacting 3-alpha-halogen azylindoles in an org. solvent (dimethylformamide, ethanol etc.), with anhydrous salts of carboxylic acids (K acetate, benzoate, glycolate) and heating the mixt. 1-5 hrs. at 50-80 degrees C. The esters purified by recrystn. are heated 1-10 min. with dild. aqs. alkalis (1-5% NaOH), and the products recrystd. Daily human doses are 0.1-2.0g for psychiatric therapy.
