Abstract

Sweetening compn. has as active ingredient a cpd. of formula: (where R is alkyl (C1-C7); R1 is phenyl, cyclohexyl, in the configuration L-L, DL-L, L-DL or DL-L) together with a non-toxic diluent. Prefd. cpds. are the methyl esters of L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine and L-aspartyl-L-hexahydrophenylalanine which are 200-250 times sweeter than sucrose. The cpds. are non-toxic and have no bitter after-taste.
