Abstract
Wire has core of Al alloy, consisting of 0.7 plus-of-minus 0.1% Mg, 0.6 plus-or-minus 0.1% Si, =0.3% Fe, balance Al and usual impurities. Wire is drawn down to dia. of 7.5-11 mm, followed by solution heat treatment at 500-580 degrees C for >=30 min. It is then quenched in water and kept at ambient temps. for >=4 days, followed by a second drawing to required dia. It is then heat treated, pref. at 250 degrees C for 2-4 hrs., or heated by electric current to 550 degrees C for a few seconds, followed by coating with metal of good conductivity and an insulating coating. Metal coating is pref. electrodeposited bronze, covered with electrodeposited Cu. Wire has similar mechanical and electrical properties to standard Cu wire.
