Abstract

Nitrophenyl carbonates of formula (I): (where A is alkyl, m is 1, 2 or 3 and n and p are 0, 1 or 2, m + n + p being 2,3,4 or 5, and R is alkyl, phenyl (pref. chloro-subst.) or the group are used for combatting molluscs and aquatic organisms. (I) have molluscicidal activity against freshwater, land and marine molluscs and are also generally active against aquatic organisms (particularly algae, crustaceans, water snakes bryozoa, Ascidiae) so that they can be used as marine antifouling agents.
