Abstract

Cross-ply tyres incorporating between some layers of full carcass fabric plies, pairs of partial plies which extend either under part of the tread zone or up part of the sidewall from the beading, esp. for commercial transport tyres operating under high loads either at high speeds or over rough surfaces. The partial layers augment the circumferential strength of the carcass or the bead sidewall strength without involving a simultaneous increase in the number of layers in the flexure zone of the sidewall where they would contribute to heat build-up. The cords in the partial plies may be angled for selective local strength orientation.
