Abstract

The title amides are prepd. by reactg. a polyisocyanate at 20 to 400 degrees C with a glycerine derivative of structure where Ar is aromatic radical of valence (x+1), R1 is H or alkyl radical, R2 is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical and x is 1 or 2. The NH and COOH grps. are in any posn. relative to Ar except the ortho and para posns. The isocyanate has structure R(NCO)y where y is 2 to 4 and R is hydrocarbon of valence y. These polymers are used to make films and fibres and are particularly useful as protective enamels and varnishes in the electric industry. They have high heat stability.
