Abstract
Oral anticaries compositions comprising a carrier and an ammonium salt of a condensate of ammonia and phosphorus pentoxide, esp. those of formulae (Compounds described in US 2,122,122). Used in dentifrices, mouthwashes etc. for prevention of dental caries and dental calculus. Anti-caries activity is increased in presence of F' and pref. in presence of Sn . Preferred compositions contain 5-15% of the active salts. A clinical trial of the compositions on 250 children aged 10-13 in a fluorine-deficient area showed that the 3 groups of 50 children using dentifrices contng. "Victamide" commercially available products of the above formulae, showed 65-75% less carious surfaces than in the group of 50 children using only a calcium pyrophosphate dentifrice. The group using pyrophosphate + SnF2 showed only a 43.6% reduction in carious surfaces.
