Abstract

Forming open-cell network of cellular thermoplastics or welded mass of thermoplastics threads. Purpose is to transform a closed-cell structure into an open-cell one. A porous thermoplastics sheet is heat treated. Part of the sheet is fed into an ignition zone with ignition device(s), and is loaded with a combustible gas in a gas admission zone reciprocating obstacle is interposed, to compress a part of the sheet at a point between the gas-admission and ignition zones; the gas is then burnt in the ignition zone, to effect the thermal treatment while the obstacle is interposed between the zones.
