Abstract

Diolefins (co)polymerisation catalyst for use in an anhydrous medium consists of (I) an organometallic compound, and (II) a catalytic complex obtained by reacting in the absence of a solvent or in a hydrocarbon solvent (a) a compd. of a group IVa, Va, VIa or VIII transition metal, and (b) a solid support selected from divalent metal compds. with hydroxyl groups and/or oxygen atoms, and polymers carrying electron donor groups. The catalyst is suitable for the homopolymerisation of butadiene, isoprene and pentadiene, and also for the copolymerisation of the monomers with isobutene, ethylene, vinylcyclohexane and styrene. By suitable selection of the catalyst components, the steric configuration of the polymer can be controlled, especially to give polymers with a very high content of tran-1,4, or cis-1,4 structures.
