Abstract

Esters are prepd. by reacting a mixture of trihydroxymethylpropane and neopentylglycol in a molar ratio of 1-2.5:1 (esp. 1.5-2.0:1) with a mixture comprising 0-20% pentanoic acid, 15-40% (pref. 17-28%) n-hexanoic acid, 25-50% (pref. 35-42%)n-octanoic acid and 15-50% (pref. 35-45%) n-decanoic acid. Up to 25% excess of acid is used.
