The microscope slide carrying a monolayer of reference tumour cells is incubated with the patient's blood serum for 30 mins., washed and incubated with anti-human gamma-globulin labelled with a fluorescent dye (e.g. fluorescein isothiocyanate) for 30 mins., again washed and the slide then observed with the aid of a fluorescence microscope. Avoids biopsies and is convenient, quick and reliable, Provides specific results. Is positive or indicative in cases of melanocarcinoma and tumours of the liver, intestine and ependyma.
