Abstract

A first part of the ore is reduced in a rotating furnace. The product is mixed, hot or cold, with a second portion and is charged directly into an electric furnace and melted in the hottest part inside a circle defined by three electrodes. The amounts of energy and material are controlled to give a liquid layer of slag of constant temp. and fluidity outside the electrode area.
