Abstract
High purity H3PO4 preparation/mineral separation process Consist of the following steps:- (1) the mineral phosphate (apatite) is digested with H3PO4 in order to obtain a molten liquor. This (2) is neutralised up to pH6 (pref. pH3) in order to precipitate the rare earths or uranium compounds present in solution. (3) The mother-liquor is then contacted with a cationic ion-exchange resin (in H form). Before step (3) a reducing agent (pref. Fe powder) can be added to the mother-liquor in order to decrease the oxidation state of the cationic impurities still present. Excess of Fe powder can be removed with a magnet.
