Abstract
The glycol ethers may be prepared on an industrial scale by reaction of (a) an unsaturated olefin with up to 30C atoms, pref. low alkene, (b) a saturated primary alcohol with up to 20C atoms, pref. low alkanol, and (c) an organic hydroperoxide with 3-20C atoms, pref. lower alkyl-, aralkyl- or cycloalkyl-hydroperoxide at temperature above 90 degrees, pref. 110-160 degrees, especially 120-150 degrees, and pressure sufficient to maintain liquid phase, pref. 1-70 kg/cm2 and in the presence of a soluble organo-metallic compound of Ti, V, Cr, Cb, Se, Zr, Te, Ta, W, Re, or U as catalyst. Absence of water is essential. Proportion of alcohol to olefin is pref. 1 to 5:1 and alcohol to hydroperoxide is pref. 1 to 9:1, especially 2 to 6:1.
