Abstract

The elevator has carrier plates pivoted on pins attached to the transporter chain. Each carrier plate has a cranked extension which bears upon a fixed ramp causing the carrier plate to swing out from and maintain a position at right angles to the transporter chain on the upward side only. After a carrier plate has effected transfer to an adjacent horizontal conveyor at the top of its travel, it swings back to take up a position close and parallel to the transporter chain for its downward travel to the reloading position. Because the carrier plastes are retracted in this way on the down side of the elevator, the take-off conveyor can be located very close to the elevator discharge to obtain a particularly smooth transfer.
