Abstract
Production of potassium salts and magnesium oxide from complex minerals. F6A. The crude minerals are calcined at 150-700 degrees C, pref. 550 degrees C in the presence of CaCl2 in an amount sufficient to convert K2SO4 into KCl and MgSO4 into MgCl2 with formation of sparingly soluble CaSO4. Soluble salts are extracted from the calcination residue, the potassium salts separated and the residual solution, containing MgCl2, is treated with calcined dolomite, Ca(OH)2, Mg(OH)2, in an amount sufficient to convert MgCl2 into Mg(OH)2 which is separated and converted into MgO.
