Copolyamides contng. a high proportion of acid sulphonate or disulphimide grps., comprising (a) at least 25% of polyamide - forming materials (I) and (b) at most. 75% of polyamide-forming materials (II) contg. acid grps. (III), (IV) or (V). MSO3-(CH2)m-NH-A-X (IV) Z-AR-SO2-NH-SO2-Ar -Z (V) where A= (CH2)n- or p-phenylene, m = 4,5 or 6 X = COOR, -NH(CH2)m-SO3M or -NH2 and M= H, alkali (ne earth) metal; n = whole number 5-12, R= H or 1-4C alkyl, Y and Z = -NH2 or -COOR, q = 0,1,2 or 3 and Ar and AR' are m- or p-phenylene.
