Abstract

Propylene is dimerised to isomeric hexenes in the presence of a catalyst which has been obtained by dispersing a molten alkali metal on an inert, porous carrier in such an amount that 1-30, preferably 5-15 weight % of alkali metal is present, and then allowing this metal to react with a stoichiometric amount of diallyl ether, at a temp. not higher than 40 deg.C. High yields and a good selectivity for 4-mehyl-pentene-1- are obtained under mild reaction conditions.
