Abstract

Polybutene-1/asphalt mixture contng. 5 to 95% wt. polybutene-1 and 95 to 5% wt. asphalt to which are added up to 50% wt., pref. 15-30 % wt. of a charge such as silica, CaCO3, talc, mica, Ca silicate, BaSO4, BaCO3, MgCO3, alumina etc. The polybutene-1 is a homopolymer contng. pref. 60-95% isotatic structure. The mixtures of this invention are used for pipeline protectives, and sealing agents and have good flexibility, tensile strength, oil resistance etc. Polybutene-1 having a fusion index of 6.9 and 58% insolubles in ether and an asphalt having fusion point of 62 deg. - 73 deg.C. are mixed in a 1 : 1 ratio to give a homogeneous film which was pressed at 110 deg.C. to obtain a plaque 0.125 mm. thick. The tensile strength of this plaque was found to be 234 kg./cm2.
