Substd. benzimidazoles of seven main structural formulae are claimed in which the 2-posn. is always substd. by a heterocyclic ring contg. an S-atom and >=1 N atoms bound directly to the benzimidazole ring or via an alkylene gp. Addition salts with (in)org. acids, phenols and mercaptants are claimed, and also salts with ammonia, metallic and org. bases of those cpds. contg. CO2H and SO3H gps. as substnts.
