Abstract

When tankers are moored by relatively free hawser systems, the movements of the tanker and oil delivery piping result in high bending stresses at the top and bottom ends of the rise tubes. To avoid this a floating raft is provided with a tower rotating in two planes on gymbls, the tower containing a roller train in which the steel tube end of the riser moves to accommodate the resultant of the vertical forces along it. The tanker connects its delivery tube to the steel riser end, which acts as the centre of the mooring circle.
