Abstract
Aeration device consists of a wheel fitted with a large number of radial vanes; the wheel hub is fixed to a vertical shaft, driven by a reducing motor. The shaft and the horizontal vane wheel can be raised and lowered by means of a nut. A guide tube is fixed below the wheel which is partially above the level of the water; it sucks the recycled water up the guide tube and projects it radially above the hopper at the top of the tube. The water is deflected by the upper surface of the blade to form a vortex. Fresh air is fed to the water by the upper surfaces of the vanes at increased pressure. The device reduces the cost of the energy required to introduce a given quantity of oxygen for activating the sludge and securing the best living conditions for the bacteria.
