Abstract

Bis-(dicarboxy-3,4-benzoyl)-1,3 and its anhydride as raw materials of imide dyes, epoxyhardeners and moulding compsns. Cpds. have improved fusibility and solubility and are pref. prepd by Friedel-Crafts condensation of isophthaloyl chloride and an orthodialkyl aromatic hydrocarbon followed by oxidation to the tetracid. Conversion to the anhydride is achieved by low temp. treatment with acetic anhydride.
