Abstract

1,041,948. Frequency digitizers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. May 26, 1965 [May 26, 1964], No. 22348/65. Heading G4H. The excitation function is produced from vocal signals by apparatus which includes means for eliminating the effects of spurious zero-crossings caused by harmonics. The signals are passed through a low-pass filter 2, Fig. 6 (not shown), to a zero-crossing detector 3. Counter 5 is continuously advanced by clock pulses and is reset by detector 3, the output of which also opens gate 6 to pass the contents of the counter to register 11. If no spurious zero crossings have occurred adder/subtractor 9 and decision circuit 10 determine that the sum of the contents of registers 11 and 12 is significantly greater than the contents of register 13 and a shift signal is produced to transfer the contents of each register to the next, register 13 feeding mean value circuit 8. If a spurious zero-crossing occurs, the sum of the contents of registers 11 and 12 is approximately the same as the contents of register 13, no shift signal is produced and the contents of 12 are replaced by the sum from 11 and 12, the next digitized value subsequently being substituted in 11. Circuit 8 includes a shift register 14 containing the last ten digitized values, a register 16 containing the sum of the last ten values (s), adder 15 deriving the new sum (s+tn-tn-10), and a divider 17 dividing the sum by 10 to obtain the mean value.
