Abstract

1,263,045. Transducing systems; local circuits. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 13 July, 1970 [18 Aug., 1969], No. 33853/70. Heading G5R. A transducing system having at least three transducers across each data track and a guide track has an electrical circuit to select as the system output those transducers which are centred over their respective data tracks. As shown, each track is the width of three transducers. Supposing transducers 1 and 2 are on the guide track, then rectifiers 31, 32 will provide zero output and Schmitt triggers 41, 42 will be at "0" output. Transducers 3-5 will be on track A, reading data, and will set triggers 43-45 to "1" output. AND-gate 52 will be enabled since both its inputs are up and will thus enable AND-gates 62, 72 and 82 to feed the signals from transducers 4, 7 and 10, which are centred on tracks A, B and C, to OR-gates 65, 75 and 85. Where there are more than three transducers per track the centre transducer outputs are paralleled (Fig. 5, not shown). Instead of rectifiers, phase- or frequency-detectors may compare the data with a reference signal recorded in the guide track. The transducers may be photodiodes in magneto-optic systems (Fig. 3, not shown).
