Abstract

A process for hardening gelatine comprises adding to the gelatine a reaction product of maleic acid or a maleic acid derivative, with a macro-molecular product containing amino groups. The reaction product may be added to a solution of the gelatine or to a gelatine-silver halide emulsion which may be in the form of a layer. The macromolecular product may be gelatine, polyvinylamine, or casein and the maleic acid derivative may be a monoester of maleic acid, maleic acid anhydride or halogenated maleic acid.
