Abstract

The present application relates to a method and apparatus for determining the dimensions and external properties of three-dimensional objects such as sawn timber. According to the method, objects are moved in a transverse position over a target area (27), the target area (27) is illuminated, and the target area (27) is scanned by a line camera (6, 7, 8). According to the invention, the target area (27) is scanned by a line camera, advantageously by a color line camera, from at least three different directions in a single measurement station equipped with an integrated illumination system, and the dimensions and external properties of the object are determined by processing the measurement data obtained from said camera (6, 7, 8) scanning from at least three different directions.
