Abstract

The invention relates to a target detection method and a corresponding device (10). According to the invention, a target (2) is scanned in the course of a measurement by means of a distance measuring device (22) comprising a controllable detection area. During said measurement the dimensions of the target are identified on the basis of the sudden distance change at the edges (2a, 2b) of the target (2). The target-detection device (1) is immobile and the scanning motion is effected by deflecting the scanning beam (26) of the distance-measuring device (22).
