Abstract

The invention concerns an arrangement and a method for cutting off a tree trunk with a motor-operated crosscut saw, which is arranged in a drive layout 1 which can be connected to a preferably moveable working machine, such as a multiphase harvester. In the method, the tree trunk S is held in the drive layout 1 and said crosscut saw 8 is fed with a controlled feeding force through the tree trunk S and the tree trunk S is sawn at the same time with said crosscut saw 8 to cut it off. In the invention, the position of the crosscut saw 8 relative to the tree trunk S being cut is determined at least during the sawing, and the feeding force is controlled on the basis of said position. <IMAGE>
