Abstract
The invention relates to a process for continuous determination of the formation and/or fibre orientation of a movable paper web, in which an electron beam is created in an electron beam source, the beam is swept continuously, repeatedly to and fro, over the movable web transversely to its motional direction, the beam which has penetrated the web is detected by means of an essentially uniform detector, which is placed in the sweep zone and detects the total radiation reaching the whole of the sweep zone, and the formation and/or fibre orientation of the web is determined as a function of the sweep position of the beam on the web. The invention further relates to a device for continuous determination of the formation and/or fibre orientation of a movable paper web P, which device incorporates an electron beam source 1, which is placed on the leading side of the web to create and direct the electron beam through the web to its other side, a detector 2, which is placed on the other side of the web, a signal processing device 3, guide members 4, 5 for the electron beam, which are arranged to sweep the electron beam continuously again and again over the movable web P transversely to its motional direction, the detector essentially extending uniformly over the sweep zone of the beam transversely to the web and incorporating a measuring member 6, which is arranged to measure the radiation arriving at the detector and create a signal which characterizes the formation and/or fibre orientation of the paper as a function of the sweep position of the beam on the web. <IMAGE>
