Abstract

The invention concerns a regulating method and a regulating circuit for a laser diode transmitter. The regulating circuit comprises a monitoring light diode FD, for detection of a portion of the optical output signal of the laser diode transmitter LD and for producing a monitoring signal 4a which represents this optical output signal. According to the invention, the regulating circuit contains a peak level detector element 6, 7 for detecting the peak level of the monitoring signal 4a and the peak level of the data signal being transmitted, a first regulating element 2, 9 for regulating the peak level in the optical output power of the laser diode transmitter LD with the peak level detector element 6, 7 on the basis of the difference between the detected peak levels, a medium-level detector level 5, 8 for detecting the medium level of the monitoring signal 4a and the medium level of the data signal being transmitted, and another regulating element 3, 10 for regulating of the medium level in the output power of the laser diode transmitter LD by means of the medium-level detector element 5, 8 based on the difference between the detected medium levels. <IMAGE>
