Abstract

The invention relates to a process for producing an α-olefin copolymer, in which an α-olefin is reacted with a complex, which comprises a metal from one of the groups I-IV in the periodic system and an α- alkenyl-substituted stabiliser which is coordinated to the metal as a ligand, in the presence of a procatalyst based on a titanium compound and a cocatalyst based on an organometallic compound. In the process, a high degree of conversion has been achieved by the procatalyst consisting of a titanium compound which is supported by a magnesium compound and is being made, as the α- alkenyl-substituted stabiliser ligand, of a compound according to the following formula <IMAGE> where R is a heteroatom-provided stabiliser radical and n is an integer between 5 and 15. With a sufficiently high number of methylene groups, a highly convertible support catalyst can consequently be used for producing α- olefin copolymers.
