Closure device for holding-back the slag during tapping from a converter, consisting of a ball comprising refractory material and a metallic casing, which ball floats on the surface of the steel bath, characterised in that the metallic casing comprises two hemispherical shells (1, 2; 7, 8) which are assembled together to form a ball and which are made from sheet steel, containing a mixture of refractory material and lumpy scrap.
