Due to the relative position of the handle and the locking device, it is sufficient that the locking device has a hook pivotally mounted at the lower edge of the end wall, and that at the upper edge of the end wall 20 there is a downwardly turned abutment surface for the hook.

One preferred embodiment of a bottle basket according to the invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a bottle basket according to the invention in a side view, partly in section, and Figure 2 shows a bottle basket in an end view.

The bottle basket shown in the drawing has a base 1, two end plates 2 and 3 at the ends, between which a vertical opening 4 is left, and a handle 5. Bottles 6 are placed in the bottle basket according to Figure 1.

The handle 5 with the raised central part is located on the longitudinal center line of the car directly above the openings 4. The adjacent edges 7 of the end wall plates 2, 3 are folded inwards or 35 so that the opening 4 becomes somewhat deep in the longitudinal direction of the bottle basket. In the lower part of the edges 7 there are aligned round openings in which the locking device 3 66572 is rotatably mounted.

According to the invention, the locking device is a hook consisting of a plate-like body 9 and a protruding strip 10. Two round plates 11 are attached to the lower part of the vertical edges of the body, each having an outwardly projecting pin 12 projecting into a hole in the edges 7.

As can be seen in particular from Figure 2, both the locking device 8 and the handle 5 are located in the vertical central plane of the bottle basket.

The opening 4 abuts at the top a transverse horizontal surface 13 located between the edges 7. At the bottom of the basket there is a recess in the longitudinal centerline of the basket which is dimensioned so as to be able to receive the Alem-15 man with the basket handles stacked on top of each other.

When the bottle baskets are stacked, they overlap as shown in the lower right corner of Fig. 1, whereby the handle 5 of the lower basket protrudes into the recess of the upper basket, thus helping to support the basket stack as it is handled. When the upper basket 20 is in place, the locking device 8 is pivoted from the position shown by the solid line in Fig. 1 to the downwardly turned position shown by the dashed line, whereby the strip 10 rests below the lower body surface 13, pressing tightly against it. The same operation is performed at the opposite end of the 25 bottle basket. Once the top basket of the stack is in place and locked in the basket below it, the stack can be lifted by a forklift from the handle of the top basket 5 to transport the stack from the brewery to the retail outlets.

If the stack of bottle baskets is transported on a pallet, the lowest basket 30 can be attached to the edge of the pallet by a locking device 8. In this case, the baskets cannot slip off the pallet.
