The present invention relates to an arrangement in upwardly open storage boxes comprising at least one movable partition for forming compartments of varying size, the partition being provided with edge portions adapted to co-operate with grooves arranged substantially vertically on the side walls of the box.

In such known storage boxes, the size of the compartments is varied by moving the partitions between different positions determined by opposite vertical grooves. A significant disadvantage of the known boxes is that the partitions cannot be locked vertically, so that small objects can easily get under the partition and mix with the objects of the adjacent compartment when moving the box, e.g. on the shelf or from the shelf.

The object of the invention is to provide a reliable fastening of partitions in such storage boxes.

This object is achieved by the invention having the features set out in the following claims.

The invention will now be described in more detail by means of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a top view of a storage box and Figure 2 shows a section along the line II-II in Figure 1.

The storage box, generally indicated by reference numeral 10, consists of a U-shaped part forming the bottom 11 of the box and a front wall 12 and a rear wall 13. The box is complemented by two side walls 14 fixed by spot welding to the front wall and the rear wall 13. The box front wall 12 is bent to form a handle 15 . In addition, the front wall 12 and the rear wall 13 are provided with strips 16 which engage the parts 18 arranged in the partition wall 17, by which the partition wall is fixed to the box, and act as guides for these parts.

The side walls 14 and the partition wall 17 are provided with extrusions 19, between which grooves 20 are formed. The extrusions 19 are arranged so that the grooves of the partition wall 17 are located directly in front of the grooves of the side walls 14. Partitions 21 are inserted into the groove 20 to form a plurality of compartments. The partitions have a straight part which is located obliquely against the bottom of the box and thus facilitates the removal of small objects stored in the compartments. The partitions further include a bent portion having edge portions 21a that cooperate with the grooves 20. The bent part has a large curvature and in order to be able to straighten the part sufficiently when inserted into the grooves 20, the partition wall is made of a flexible material. A suitable material for the partition as well as the box in general is a lacquered steel plate. Due to the elastic properties of the partition, the bent part is pressed into the grooves which it grips at three points A, B and C. Point B forms in some cases a relatively large contact surface.

Thanks to the partitions and grooves according to the invention, the partitions are locked in their lowered position. The locking effect is further enhanced by the fact that the partition wall slopes obliquely against the bottom of the box and, due to its flexible properties, is pressed against it. This also provides a very good seal between the partition and the bottom of the box, which prevents small parts stored in the compartments from penetrating under the lower edge of the partitions and moving the partitions upwards.

One condition for the oblique position of the straight parts of the partitions against the bottom of the box is to fit the grooves 20 only to the upper part of the side walls of the box and the partition wall. The grooves then preferably extend less than half the height of these walls.

The embodiment shown is in no way intended to limit the invention, the scope of which is defined only by the following claims. For example, the partitions may co-operate only with the grooves made in the side walls of the box, or several partitions may be used.
