Abstract

1,171,869. Diagnostic agent for fat &c. or water. BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM G.m.b.H. 30 Jan., 1968 [1 Feb., 1967; 12 May, 1967], No. 4734/68. Heading B1X. [Also in Divisions B6 and C3] A diagnostic agent for the detection of fat or similar oleaginous substances (oils, waxes, fatty acids) or water by a colour reaction comprises a film of a natural or synthetic polymer which is resistant to physical and chemical attack by oleaginous substances, is resistant to hydrolysis and is substantially non- swellable in aqueous media in which film a lipophilic or hydrophilic dyestuff is substantially uniformly distributed in dispersed but undissolved form. In preparing the diagnostic agent, the dyestuff in finely divided form is mixed with a solution or dispersion of filmforming polymer. Alternatively the dyestuff may be deposited on a solid particulate carrier such as titanium dioxide or cellulose powder and the treated carrier added to the film-forming solution or dispersion. The film may be formed on glass, wood, paper, metal foil or synthetic resin foil. Examples refer to detection of fat or fatty soap in faeces, to grease on the skin, water on a moist diaper, lipid in serum. Specification 1,159,637 is referred to.
