  1. Frame system for a door and use of a striker system for such a frame system The invention relates to a frame system for a door comprising a metal frame with a latch opening - formed in a front face of the metal frame - and comprising a latching device - fastened in an interior of the metal frame when the frame system is in a mounted state - for a latch of the door which engages into the latch opening from front to back, wherein, when the frame system is in the mounted state, the metal frame has a width extending from front to back in the X-direction, i.e. starting from the front face, a depth extending in the Y-direction and a height extending in the Z-direction, and wherein the latching device comprises a support and a latching element which can be displaced parallel to the Y-direction and fixed on the support when the frame system is in the mounted state.
The invention also relates to a use of a latching device for a frame system for a door comprising a metal frame with a latch opening - formed in a front face of the metal frame —- wherein the latching device is fastened in an interior of the metal frame when the frame system is in a mounted state and is designed for latching to a latch of the door which engages into the latch opening from front to back, and wherein the metal frame has a width extending from front to back in the X-direction, i.e. starting from the front face, a depth extending in the Y-direction and a height extending in the Z-direction, and wherein — the latching device comprises a support and a latching element which can be displaced parallel to the Y-direction and fixed on the support when the frame system is in the mounted state.
Such frame systems and latching devices are already previously known from the prior art in a large number of different embodiments.
For example, a metal frame is known from AT 520 324 A4, wherein a latch engagement opening is provided for latching a door latch in the metal frame, and wherein in the latch engagement opening a latch engagement locking element is arranged, the position of — which in the latch engagement opening can be adjusted and fixed.
In order to allow alignment and adjustment of the latch engagement opening, the latch engagement locking element is to comprise a latching limb and a fastening limb, wherein the fastening limb can be connected to a support body which is fastened to the inner face of the metal frame.
Furthermore, a frame system is known from GB 505 236 A which has, in addition to the aforementioned features, a metal frame which has, in the region of the latch opening, a protective box which surrounds the metal frame in the region of the latch opening in such a manner that the interior of the metal frame in the region of the latch opening is inaccessible from the back, namely such that the latching device can be mounted on the metal frame only from the front.
It is the object of the present invention to provide an alternative frame system for a door and an alternative use of a latching device for a frame system, in which a transfer of the frame system to its mounted state is simplified.
In order to achieve the object, the frame system in accordance with the invention in conjunction with the preamble of claim 1 is characterised in that a width of the latching device extending in the Y-direction is such that the initially separate latching device can be inserted with clearance into the interior of the metal frame from the front through the latch opening together with the support and the latching element fastened to the support
    — by means of fastening screws.
Furthermore, this object is achieved by an inventive use of a latching device including the features of claim 5, which is characterised in that a width of the latching device extending in the Y-direction is such that the initially separate latching device can be inserted with clearance into the interior of the metal frame from the front through the latch opening together with the support and the latching element fastened to the support by means of fastening screws.
The expression "from the front" is to be understood to basically also include solutions in accordance with the invention which enable the latching device to be mounted from the front in an oblique manner.
The protective box can be formed in a conventional manner and protects the region of the latch opening from contamination which is undesired and impairs the function of the
    — frame system during installation of the frame system in accordance with the invention.
The particular advantage of the invention is that a transfer of the frame system to its mounted state is simplified in an alternative manner.
By reason of the inventive design of the frame system and the use of the latching device, e.g. alternative subsequent mounting of the latching device on site is also rendered possible without a great deal of outlay.
Since the latching device is mounted on the metal frame only from the front, accessibility to the metal frame from the back, e.g. in order to screw the support of the latching device to the metal frame, is not required.
Accordingly, the invention also permits alternative retrofitting of already installed metal frames with the latching device in accordance with the invention in order to produce a frame system in accordance with the invention.
This retrofitting can then be done without a great deal of outlay and without major structural changes to the already installed metal frame, e.g. without removing the protective box of the metal frame.
Such protective boxes are designed e.g. as mortar protective boxes.
    Removal of the
    — protective box would be possible only with a great deal of outlay and major structural works.
This is where the invention provides a remedy.
Retrofitting with the frame system in accordance with the invention and the latching device in accordance with the invention can be required e.g. when a new door is to be attached in a metal frame already fastened to the wall.
It is then often the case that a latch of the new door does not correspond with
    — alatching device which is installed in the metal frame already fastened in the wall in order for the latch of the door to properly latch with the latching device when the door is in a closed position.
The same applies to frames which, by reason of the previously installed doors, have been produced in a manner deviating from known DIN standards.
Basically, the frame system in accordance with the invention and the inventive use of the latching device are freely selectable within board suitable limits according to type, mode of operation, material, dimensioning and arrangement.
Further advantages, features and details of the invention can be found in the dependent
    — claims and the description hereinafter.
The drawings serve, merely by way of example, to clarify the invention and have no limiting effect. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 shows an exemplified embodiment of the frame system in accordance with the invention comprising the latching device in a plan view of the front side of the metal frame,

Fig. 3 shows the frame system of the exemplified embodiment in a partial, side sectional view in the region of the latch opening,
Fig. 4a shows the frame system of the exemplified embodiment in a partial cross- section in the region of the latch opening, in a first variant,
Fig. 4b shows the first variant in a view similar to Fig. 4a, comprising a modified metal frame,
Fig. 5a shows the frame system of the exemplified embodiment in a partial cross- section in the region of the latch opening, in a second variant and
Fig. 5b shows the second variant in a view similar to Fig. 5a, comprising a metal frame modified as shown in Fig. 4b. Figs. 1 to 5b illustrate purely by way of example an exemplified embodiment of the frame system in accordance with the invention for a door with an inventive use of the latching — device in two variants and the modifications thereof.
The frame system 2 for the door 4 comprises a metal frame 6 with a latch opening 10 - formed in a front face 8 of the metal frame 6 - and comprising a latching device 12 - fastened in an interior of the metal frame 6 when the frame system 2 is in a mounted state, as illustrated in Figs. 1, 3 to 5b - for a latch 14 of the door 4 which engages into the latch 5 opening 10 from front to back, wherein, when the frame system 2 is in the mounted state, the metal frame 6 has a width extending from front to back in the X-direction, i.e. starting from the front face 8, a depth extending in the Y-direction and a height extending in the Z-direction. In the image plane of Fig. 1, the X-direction extends perpendicularly into the image plane, the Y-direction extends from left to right and the Z-direction extends from down to up. In the image planes of Figs. 4a to 5b, the X-direction extends in each case from left to right, the Y-direction extends from up to down and the Z-direction extends perpendicularly out of the respective image plane. The latching device 12 comprises a support 16 and a latching element 18 which can be displaced parallel to the Y-direction and fixed on the support 16 when the frame system 2 is in the mounted state. The support 16 of the latching device 12 is formed as a metal part, wherein the support 16 has a central base portion 20 for fastening the latching element 18 to the support 16 and two mounting portions 22 for fastening the latching device 12 to the metal frame 6, said mounting portions adjoining the central base portion 20 on both sides parallel to the Z-direction when the frame system 2 is in the mounted state. The latching element 18 is formed as a metal part having an L-shaped cross-section, wherein one limb 24 of the latching element 18 is formed as a fastening portion for fastening the latching element 18 to the support 16 and the other limb 26 is formed as a latching portion for latching with the latch 14 of the door 4. See in particular Fig. 2. As can also be seen in Figs. 1 and 2, the support 16 has in each case a fastening hole 28 in each of the mounting portions 22. The fastening of the support 16 and thus of the latching device 12 to the metal frame 6 is then effected by means of two screws 30. For this purpose, the support 16 is formed in such a way that the latching device 12 can be — connected, namely screwed, to the metal frame 6 from the front by means of the support
    16. For the purpose of displacing and fixing the latching element 18 relative to the support 16, the support 16 has two fastening holes 32 and the latching element 18 has long holes
34 corresponding to the two fastening holes 32. The long holes 34 are formed in such a way that the latching element 18 can be displaced by means of fastening screws 36 relative to the support 16 of the latching device 12 parallel to the Y-direction and fixed on the support 16 when the frame system 2 is in the mounted state.
See in this respect in — particular Figs. 1 to 3. The metal frame 6 comprises a protective box 38 in the region of the latch opening 10, which protective box surrounds the metal frame 6 in the region of the latch opening 10 in such a way that the interior of the metal frame 6 is inaccessible from the back in the region of the latch opening 10, wherein the latching device 12 is formed in such a way that the latching device 12 can be mounted on the metal frame 6 only from the front, i.e. in the image plane of Fig. 3 and in the respective image plane of Figs. 4a to 5b from the left.
In the case of the present exemplified embodiment, the latching device 12 is formed in such a way that the latching device 12 can be inserted into the interior of the metal frame 6 from the front merely through the latch opening 10 and can be fastened to the metal frame 6 by means of the support 16. For this purpose, the latching device 12 is formed in such a manner that a width of the latching device 12 extending in the Y-direction when the frame system 2 is in the mounted state is such that the latching device 12 can be inserted with clearance into the interior of the metal frame 6 from the front through the latch opening 10. The mode of operation of the frame system in accordance with the invention and the inventive use of the latching device according to the present exemplified embodiment — will be explained in greater detail hereinafter with reference to Figs. 1 to 5b.
Like or similarly functioning components of the individual variants and modifications are designated by like reference signs in Figs. 1 to 5b.
Initially, the metal frame 6 of the frame system 2 is fastened to a wall, not illustrated, in a manner known to a person skilled in the art.
The same applies in the case where the metal frame 6 is a metal frame which is already fastened to a wall.
For the purpose of transferring the frame system 2 to its mounted state as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to 5b, the initially separate latching device 12 together with the support 16 and the latching element 18 fastened to the support 16 by means of the fastening screws 36 is inserted into the interior of the metal frame 6 through the latch opening 10 of the metal frame 6 formed on the front face 8 of the metal frame 6, and is screwed to the metal frame 6 from the front by means of the fastening screws 30 and the fastening holes 28 formed on the mounting portions 22 of the support 16. For this purpose, fastening holes 40 corresponding to the fastening holes 28 are arranged on the front face 8 of the metal frame 6. See Fig. 3. Subsequently, the fastening screws 36 are loosened to such an extent that the latching element 18 can be moved by means of the long holes 34 relative to the support 16 of the latching device 12, namely parallel to the Y-direction, said latching device being fastened to the metal frame 6 in the manner explained above. By means of this displacement of the latching element 18 relative to the support 16, it is now possible to adjust the latching element 18 of the latching device 12 parallel to the Y-direction in such a way that the latch 14 of the door 4 properly latches with the latching element 18 when the door 4 is closed, i.e. when it is moved to a closed position of the door 4, as illustrated in Figs. 4a to 5b. As soon as the reguired relative position of the latching element 18 to the support 16 parallel to the Y-direction has been established, the latching element 18 is fixed relative to the support 16 of the latching device 12 by means of the fastening holes 32, the long holes 34 and the fastening screws 36. The above explanations apply to the present exemplified embodiment irrespective of the respective variant and irrespective of the respective modification which are briefly explained hereinafter.
Fig. 4a illustrates a first variant of the exemplified embodiment. As can be seen in Fig. 4a, the latch opening 10 extends not only over the front face 8 of the metal frame 6, but also partially over a broadside 42 of the metal frame 6 directly adjoining the front face 8. Such an extension of the latch opening 10 into the broadside 42 can be worked e.g. subsequently into the metal frame 6. The latch opening 10 must be widened accordingly by the space required by the latching element 18, so as to permit access to the interior of the metal frame 6 obliquely from the front. See in this respect the explanations above and the second variant shown in Fig. 5a.
The first and second variants of the exemplified embodiment differ in the features essential to the invention merely in that, in the second variant of the exemplified embodiment shown in Fig. 5a, the latch opening 10 is formed merely on the front face 8 of the metal frame 6. Otherwise, the two variants correspond to one another in the aspects which are essential to the invention.
Figs. 4b and 5b each show a modification of the two aforementioned variants of the exemplified embodiment, wherein the two modifications correspond to one another.
The modification of the first variant shown in Fig. 4b and the modification of the second variant shown in Fig. 5b differ from the embodiments shown in Figs. 4a and 5a only in that the metal frame 6 is constructed differently in each case.
Otherwise, the modifications shown in Figs. 4b and 5b do not differ from the variants shown in Figs. 4a and Sa, and so reference can be made to the statements above relating to the first variant shown in Fig. 4a and the second variant shown in Fig.
    Sa.
By means of the frame system in accordance with the invention and the inventive use of the latching device according to the present exemplified embodiment, a transfer of a frame system to its mounted state is thus simplified.
For example, by means of the frame system 2 and the use of the latching device 12, subsequent mounting of the latching device 12 on site is also rendered possible without a great detail of outlay.
Since the latching device 12 is mounted on the metal frame 6 only from the front, it is not necessary to access the metal frame 6 from the rear e.g. in order to screw the support 16 of the latching device 12 to the metal frame 6. Accordingly, the invention also permits retrofitting of already installed metal frames with the latching device 12 in accordance with the invention in order to produce a frame system 2 in accordance with the invention by simple means.
This retrofitting can then be done without a great deal of outlay and without major structural changes to the already installed metal frame, e.g. without removing the protective box of the metal frame.
This is particularly advantageous since removal of the protective box would be possible only with a great deal of outlay and major structural — works.
The invention is not limited to the present exemplified embodiment with its variants and modifications.
For example, the frame system in accordance with the invention and the inventive use of the latching device can be used in an advantageous manner for a large number of different applications.
For instance, the invention can be used in new installations and also when retrofitting already installed frame systems.
Embodiments having a large number of different configurations are feasible.
The shape, material selection, dimensioning and arrangement are stated here purely by way of example.
For example, the protective box — and the metal frame of the frame system in accordance with the invention can be formed in a suitable manner for many different applications.
In contrast to the present exemplified embodiment, the support can be formed as a cast metal part and the latching element can be formed as a bent metal part.
However, other — materials are basically also feasible for the latching device and thus for the support and the latching element.
