1 16166068.3 SEALS, METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MOUNTING THE SEAL AND DOORS HAVING SAID SEALS
[0001] The invention relates to a seal, in particular to an automatically lowerable floor seal for doors, wherein the seal comprises a seal housing, a sealing means which is preferably fitted in the seal housing, and fastening means for fastening the seal housing in a groove of a door, a window or the like. The invention additionally relates to a door leaf having such a seal, to a method for producing such seals, and to a method for producing a door leaf with such a seal.
[0002] Seals of the type mentioned in the introduction are known, for example, from the document having the publication number DE 203 00 265 U1. The seal disclosed in this document comprises an angle piece and fastening screws as fastening means. The angle pieces are inserted laterally into the seal housing of the seal by means of one leg. The other leg projects from the housing and has a hole for the fastening screw, which can be screwed in on the hinge side and/or the lock side for fastening the seal into the door leaf.
[0003] Seals of the aforementioned type are envisaged for a manual installation on the door leaves. The installation is effected in this connection either in a door manufacturing operation (door factory) or however on site often a building site, where the door is installed in a building. The fastening of the seal with an angle piece and fastening screws as fastening means has proved to be simple and cost-efficient in the past
[0004] More recently there has been an increasing concentration on a few door manufacturers, along with the concentration on a few door factories. As a result, nowadays considerably greater numbers of doors are produced in the door factories than was the case in the past.
[0005] The manual installation of door seals in these larger door factories is increasingly found to be a competitive disadvantage as the manual installation of door seals is labour- intensive and conseguently costly. There is therefore the need to automate the installation of the door seals in the door leaves and to accomplish this at least in part mechanically, but advantageously to accomplish this fully mechanically.
[0006] An at least in partial mechanical installation of the known door seals is certainly possible in principle, but has some disadvantages arising from the design of the door seals in terms of a manual installation. One of the disadvantages is that the manufacturer of the door seals supplies the fastening means separately from the rest of the seal. Supplying
2 16166068.3 the fastening means separately in this way means that the fastening means as well as the rest of the seal, in particular the seal housing with the sealing means arranged therein, have to be supplied to a device for installing the door seals. This is certainly possible in principle and is also more cost-efficient than manual installation, in particular where large numbers of units are to be installed. This obvious solution however is not the optimum one.
[0007] The present inventions start from this background.
[0008] The objects underlying the present inventions are o to develop further a seal of the type mentioned in the introduction, such that it is better suited for mechanical installation in door leaves and in particular the fastening means for a mechanical installation do not have to be supplied separately, o to propose a method for producing and installing an improved seal according to the invention, and o to propose a device for the installation of the seal in door leaves.
[0009] These objects are achieved by the methods and devices disclosed in the independent claims.
[0010] A seal according to the invention is developed compared to a seal mentioned in the introduction in that the fastening means, prior to the installation of the seal in the groove, are arranged on the seal housing in at least partially captive fashion. Captive in the meaning of the invention means that the parts of the fastening means connected to the seal housing do not become detached from the seal housing due to the forces usually arising during the transportation of a seal. Captive in the meaning of the invention does not necessarily mean however that the fastening means are connected to the seal housing such that they would not be detachable from the seal housing wholly or partially by hand or by means of a tool. A detachment of the fastening means from the seal housing manually or by means of a tool remains a possibility, or can however be excluded.
[0011] Preferably the seal according to the invention can be designed such that it is possible to install the seal on a door leaf without using tools. Applying a force manually, for example by pressing or pulling, can then be sufficient to install the seal on the door leaf. The seal can also be arranged and suitable for a tool-free removal.
3 16166068.3
[0012] Owing to such a captive arrangement of at least a part of the fastening means on the seal housing, it is no longer necessary to supply these parts of the fastening means separately during the installation of the seal in the groove of a door leaf.
[0013] The fastening means can be connected at least partially to the seal housing by a compression connection, an adhesive connection, by a frictional connection, by a non- positive connection and/or by a positive engagement connection. The fastening means can for example be connected to the seal housing by clipping it into the seal housing.
[0014] One of the fastening means that is connected to the seal housing can comprise a first section and a second section, wherein the first section is captively connected to the seal housing and the second section is suitable or designed for a connection to a door, a window or the like. The first section can for example be inserted into the seal housing.
[0015] In at least one of the fastening means the first section may be suitable and designed for bending or buckling with respect to the second section. Thus, for the installation of the seal in the door, window or the like, the second section can be bent relative to the first section, in order to be positioned on the door, the window or the like.
[0016] It is also possible for the first section and the second section to be connected to each other by a hinge or by a predetermined buckling point. This facilitates the bending operation,
[0017] The seal housing and at least one of the fastening means may be suitable and designed for the withdrawal of the second section of this fastening means from the seal housing. In this way it is possible for the second section to be accommodated in the seal housing during the transportation, i.e., before the seal is installed in the seal housing, and be removed from the seal housing for the installation. The second section therefore does not project from the seal housing during the transportation and is then better protected against any damage.
[0018] It is also possible that in a seal according to the invention at least one of the fastening means is pivotally mounted on the seal housing and is pivoted to an installation position for the mounting.
[0019] In the case of the seal according to claim 1, the at least one fastening means has a hole for a fastening screw with which this at least one fastening means is fastened to a second section on the door, the window or the like by means of a screw connection. In the case of seals according to claim 2 or according to claim 3, the at least one fastening means can have a hole for a fastening screw, with which this at least one fastening means
4 16166068.3 is preferably fastened with a second section to the door, window or the like by means of a screw connection.
[0020] A method according to the invention for producing seals in accordance with the type according to the invention can be further developed in that the seals after their production are inserted mechanically into a transporting container, for example into a transporting cassette.
[0021] A method for producing a door leaf having a seal according to the invention can be developed further in that the seals are removed mechanically from a transport container, for example a transport cassette, before they are installed, so that they can be supplied to the device for installing the seals.
[0022] Exemplary embodiments of seals according to the invention and door leaves according to the invention are shown in more detail in the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a partial section through a seal according to the invention in a first embodiment,
Fig. 1a is a plan view of the seal according to the invention according to Fig. 1,
Fig. 1b shows a partial section through a door leaf with the seal according to the invention according to Fig. 1,
Fig. 2 shows a partial section through a seal according to the invention in a second embodiment,
Fig. 2a shows a partial section through a door leaf with the seal according to the invention according to Fig. 2,
Fig. 3 shows a side view of a seal in a third embodiment,
Fig. 3a shows a detail from Fig. 3,
Fig. 3b isa plan view of the seal according to Fig. 4,
Fig. 3c shows a partial section through a door leaf with the seal according to Fig. 3,
Fig. 3d shows a side view of the door leaf with the seal according to Fig. 3c.
[0023] The seals shown in the figures comprise a seal housing 2, which is inserted or can be inserted into a groove in the lower end of a door leaf 1. A mechanism, which is not shown in the figures, and a sealing means, which is likewise not shown in the figures, are usually housed in the seal housing 2. The mechanism is provided for automatically lowering the sealing means.
16166068.3
[0024] The seal housing 2 of the seals is configured in a substantially U-shaped manner and comprises two legs 21, 23 which are connected to each other by means of a web 22.
[0025] The door leaf 1 and also the seal housing 2 and the legs 21, 23 and the web 22 of the seal housing 2 are denoted by the same reference numerals in the figures. The specific 5 details of the seal housings 2 of the different exemplary embodiments are referred to specifically in each case below.
[0026] The seals and in particular the seal housing 2 are fastened to the door leaf 1 by fastening means. The various embodiments of the seals according to the invention which are shown in the figures differ by way of the fastening means.
[0027] The seal according to Fig. 1 has a fastening means 4 with an angle piece and a fastening screw 46. The angle piece includes in this connection a first leg, which forms a first section 41 of the fastening means 4, and a second leg, which forms a second section 42 of the fastening means 4. A hole 45 is in turn provided in the second section 42, through which the fastening screw 46 is guided.
[0028] The second section 42 in the state before the installation of the seal on the door leaf 1, as illustrated in Fig. 1, is arranged at an obtuse angle relative to the first section 41. For the installation of the seal the second section 42 is bent in the direction of the first section 41 and positioned on the door leaf so that the angle is approximately 90° and the second section abuts the outside of the door leaf.
[0029] The first section of the fastening means 4 has lateral bulges 43, which are shaped such that the first section 41 of the fastening means is inserted in a press fit between the legs 21, 23 of the seal housing 2. The fastening means 4 is thus fixed in the seal housing 2 in the longitudinal direction of the first section 41. The fixing of the first section 41 of the fastening means 4 between the web 22 and a flange 22b spaced therefrom on the inside of the leg 21 and 22 of the seal housing 2 then takes place at the top and bottom — in relation to the installation position of the seal in a door.
[0030] The bending of the second section 42 in the direction of the first section 41 can preferably be effected mechanically.
[0031] Also, the seal according to Figs. 2 and 2a has a fastening means 5 with a first section 51 and a second section 52. Furthermore, the fastening means 5 also includes a fastening screw 56.
[0032] The first section 51 serves in turn for the fastening of the fastening means 5 on the seal housing 2. The second section 52 serve for the fastening of the seal on the door
6 16166068.3 leaf 1, for which purpose a hole 55 is provided in the second section 52 for the fastening screw 56.
[0033] Furthermore, the fastening means 5 includes an insert part 54, which is inserted in the seal housing between the web 2 of the seal housing 2 and a flange 22b on the inside of the leg 21 and 22 of the seal housing 2. This insert part 54 has a somewhat rectangular cross section and comprises a channel in which the first section 51 and also the second section 52 are displaceably arranged. The first section is connected via a hinge 53 to the section. In other words, the second section can be swivelled relative to the first section
51.
[0034] In one arrangement of the first section 51 and of the second section 52, before the installation of the seal both sections are inserted into the insert part 54. If the seal is now to be installed, the second section 52 is removed from the channel of the insert part 54 and swivelled by about 90°, so that the second section can abut on the outside of the door leaf 1. The seal is then fastened to the door leaf 1 with the fastening screw 56, which is guided through the hole 55.
[0035] Also, the third exemplary embodiment, as illustrated in Figs. 3 to 3d, comprises an angle piece and a fastening screw 66 as fastening means 6. The angle piece has a first section 61 and a second section 62, wherein the first section 61 is formed by one leg and the second section 62 is formed by the other leg of the angle piece. The first section 61 is substantially shorter than the second section 62 and is pivotally mounted via pivot pins 63 in bores in the region of the web 22 of the seal housing 2. The second section 62 is fixed at an angle of ca. 90° in conjunction with the first section 61.
[0036] The angle piece is captively fixed to the seal housing via the pivot pins 63.
[0037] For the installation of the seal on the door leaf 1 the angle piece is pivoted upwardly until the second section 62 abuts the door leaf 1. The fastening screw 66 is then guided through the hole 65 in the second section 62 in order to screw the latter to the door leaf 1.
[0038] The exemplary embodiments described with the aid of Figs. 1 to 3d have fastening means 4, 5, 6 with fastening screws 46, 56, 66 for fastening the seal housing 2 to the door leaves 1.
