The invention relates to a method by means of which the movements of a lifting crane are controlled, whereby the displacement and rotative movements are according to said method provided by means of a frequency converter and a squirrel-cage motor, said motor being controlled by means of a control unit from which a desired value for the speed is carried to said frequency converter via programmable logic, whereby the desired speed value Vref from said control unit is digitally filtered in a micro- processor based apparatus in such a way that said filtering changes as a function of the difference Vdiff between said desired value Vref for the speed and the actual value Vact of the speed of the lifting crane, in the following way: when Vdiff is small, said desired value of the speed is filtered strongly, when Vdiff is large, the filtering is reduced rapidly, and when the desired value Vref of the speed and the actual value Vact of the speed cross each other, that is, the difference Vdiff changes sign, the actual value Vact of the speed is set to the filtered desired value of the speed. <IMAGE>
