Process for bleaching household linen in a household washing cycle, comprising a prewashing in an alkaline bath of pH of between 9 and 13, at a temperature of between 40 DEG C and 70 DEG C, in the presence of at least one peroxide bleaching agent and of a quantity of an alkaline-earth element other than calcium and with the exclusion of magnesium, of between 0.5 x 10<-3> and 250 x 10<-3> gram-atoms per kilogram of prewashing bath.
