Process for obtaining a 2-guanidinothiazole of formula I comprising the cyclization reaction of 1-chloro-2- hydroxypropanone with methyl dithiocarbamate, followed by oxidation of the 4-hydroxymethyl-2-methylthiothiazole formed by treatment with a peracid, such as performic, peracetic, perbenzoic or m-chloroperbenzoic acid, reacting the sulphone obtained with guanidine, followed by treatment with a sulphonyl chloride to produce the corresponding sulphonate, and, finally, reacting the latter with N-sulphamoyl-3-mercaptopropionamidine. This compound has pharmacological applications for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases produced by gastric hypersecretion.
