Abstract

The process consists of (a) selecting micro-organisms which produce penicillinacylase and isolating from them the DNA fragments contg. the genetic information for prodn. of penicillinacylase, and inserting H in a DNA segment to obtain the corresp. recombinant segments (b) introducing these segments into the cells of a host micro-organism, not a penicillinacylase producer, of auxotrophic strains for cpds. able to form amide bonds with phenyl acetic acid and (c) isolating the modifications with penicillinacylase activity and cultivating the modified cells in a suitable culture medium.
