Abstract

The process is carried out in two phases: (a) lixiviation with inorganic acid, e.g. sulphuric, hydrochloric or mixts. in amount of 0.05-0.7 kg acid per kg sludge. The solid/liquid ratio in the reactor is 1/1 to 1/20, and the time is 0.5-4 h; (b) alkaline pptn. of the dissolved metals in the supernatant acid by treatment with NaOH, KOH or Ca(OH)2 to give pH 8-12. The ppted metal hydroxides are separated by filtration, leaving an aq. lye which can be used in washing the lixiviated sludge or in the actual lixiviation process.
